The Hospital Authority (HA) today (May 16) announced its Outstanding Staff and Teams Award for 2013, with six staff members and five health-care teams from different disciplines of hospitals and the Head Office being awarded (list of awardees is appended). Their outstanding work performance for provision of quality patient-centred care, enhancing team spirit and collaboration, and improving the operational effectiveness of the organisation were highly commended.
The HA has been organising the annual award scheme since 1993 as a corporate-wide staff reward and recognition programme to recognise the significant contributions made by staff members and teams. This is the 20th year of the award programme.
The HA Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, said, "The performance of the awarded staff members and teams can be summed up as 'striving for the best'. While some of them work towards service enhancement, others endeavour to forge co-operation among different departments, and some others dedicate themselves wholeheartedly for patient care. All our colleagues should be proud of the awardees' pursuit for improvement through innovation and commitment in health-care services."
The Outstanding Staff and Teams Award 2013 Selection Panel is chaired by the Vice-Chairman of the HA Human Resources Committee, Ms Lau Ka-shi. Addressing the ceremony today, Ms Lau said, "During the selection process, we have a chance to listen to staff members on their work and have a feeling of their passions. I am touched by their commitment to going the extra mile towards service enhancement. Not only do they demonstrate professionalism and excellent performance in the workplace, they also excel themselves, going beyond their own positions, achieving selfless contributions for the betterment of patients, colleagues, hospitals and the community."
Other members of the Selection Panel include the HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin; HA Board Member Mr Andy Lau; the Hong Kong East Cluster Chief Executive, Dr Lau Chor-chiu; the HA Head of Human Resources, Dr Derrick Au; and a past award winner, Department Operations Manager (Paediatrics) of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Ms Gloria Luk.
The awardees were selected from among 69 nominations from various divisions of hospitals and the Head Office. The selection criteria are based on the following values of the HA:

c. Committed staff
d. Teamwork
