Young musicians to showcase all-time favourites from East and West

     Presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, young musicians from local bands, orchestras and choirs participated in two joint concerts held in April. Two further concerts, to be performed by junior groups and Chinese orchestras, will be held in June with a programme of fabulous Chinese and Western orchestral works.

     The Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra, the Hong Kong Junior Chamber Ensemble and the Hong Kong Children's Symphonic Band will perform a joint concert at 8pm on June 1 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall under the batons of conductors Tsui Ying-fai, Cheung Hiu-fai, Tse Tsz-chung, Dr Joseph Kam, Lau Yeung-chit, Lee Sing-wan, Au Wai-see and Chan Wing-sze. Programme highlights will include Liu Wenjin's "The Great Wall Capriccio", an arrangement of Stravinsky's "Round Dance" from the ballet "The Firebird" and Hannickel's "Concerto for Crash Cymbals".

     The final concert, to be jointly performed by the Music Office Children's Chinese Orchestra, the Island Youth Chinese Orchestra, the Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra and the New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra, will be held at 8pm on June 8 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Under the batons of conductors Kwok Kin-ming, Tsang Chi-wai, Tse Tsz-chung, Chan King-tsun, Loo Sze-wang, Cheung Hiu-fai, Fong Ka-po, Cheung Wai-fung, Lee Ka-him and Chin King, the musicians will showcase a spectacular rendition of Chinese music including Loo Leung-fai's "Memory of the Childhood", Zhao Jiping's "Celebration Overture", Su Wen-cheng's sheng concerto "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" and Li Xin's "Good Days" arranged by Ning Zuoliang.

     Tickets priced at $60, $40 and $20 for the two concerts are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
