Police will implement the following special traffic arrangements tomorrow (May 1) to facilitate the holding of a public procession on Hong Kong Island in the afternoon.
A. Road closure
From 1.30pm:
- Gloucester Road U-turn slip road between southbound Gloucester Road and northbound Gloucester Road;
- Southbound Gloucester Road between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road will be intermittently closed;
- Sugar Street;
- Irving Street (except for vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
- Jardine's Bazaar;
- Tang Lung Street; and
- Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.
From 2.15pm:
- Westbound Yee Wo Street between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
- Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
- Kai Chiu Road;
- Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
- Westbound Hennessy Road between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road;
- Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
- Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Morrison Hill Road;
- Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
- Westbound Hennessy Road west of Lee Garden Road;
- A slip road leading from eastbound Johnston Road to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Eastbound Queensway;
- Rodney Street;
- Westbound Harcourt Road between Harcourt Garden car park exit and Tamar Street;
- First right lane of westbound Harcourt Road between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
- Eastbound Harcourt Road between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
- Southbound Tim Wa Avenue between Lung Wo Road and Harcourt Road, except vehicles heading for Chief Executive Office and Central Government Offices car park;
- First right lane of Garden Road flyover; and
- Southbound Edinburgh Place between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.
From 4.30pm:
- Tamar Street;
- Southbound Cotton Tree Drive between the U-turn slip road of southbound Cotton Tree Drive and Queensway;
- Murray Road between Harcourt Road and Queensway if necessary;
- Eastbound Chater Road between Jackson Road and Murray Road;
- Club Street;
- Unnamed slip road next to AIA Central;
- Eastbound Des Voeux Road Central between Pedder Street and Queensway; and
- Ice House Street between Queen¡¯s Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central.
B. Traffic diversion
From 1.30pm:
- Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road cannot turn right to northbound Gloucester Road;
- Traffic along southbound Victoria Park Road flyover will be diverted to westbound Gloucester Road if necessary;
- Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road heading for Causeway Road will be diverted to southbound Tai Hang Road flyover if necessary;
- Traffic along eastbound Great George Street must turn left to northbound Gloucester Road (except for vehicles heading for southbound Tai Hang Road flyover);
- Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street cannot turn left to Sugar Street;
- Traffic along westbound Causeway Road cannot turn right to Irving Street (except for vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel) and must turn left to westbound Leighton Road;
- Traffic along Irving Street must turn right to northbound Pennington Street;
- Traffic along northbound Pennington Street must turn right to eastbound Yee Wo Street;
- Traffic along westbound Russell Street must turn left to southbound Canal Road East; and
- Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road cannot turn left to Canal Road East.
From 2.15pm:
- Traffic along Yun Ping Road must turn left to Pak Sha Road or Lan Fong Road;
- Traffic along northbound Canal Road West near the junction with Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Sharp Street West cannot turn left to northbound Bowrington Road;
- Traffic along northbound Bowrington Road must turn right to eastbound Sharp Street West;
- Traffic along eastbound Wan Chai Road must turn right to southbound Morrison Hill Road;
- Traffic along southbound Stewart Road cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along southbound Fleming Road cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along northbound Fleming Road cannot turn left to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along southbound Fenwick Street cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
- Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road near the exit of Harcourt Garden car park will be diverted to westbound Harcourt Road Flyover;
- Traffic along eastbound Harcourt Road will be diverted to turn right to southbound Cotton Tree Drive;
- Traffic along Garden Road flyover will be diverted to northbound Cotton Tree Drive;
- Traffic along northbound Cotton Tree Drive will be diverted to Tim Wa Avenue;
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to Tim Wa Avenue (except for vehicles heading for Chief Executive¡¯s Office and Central Government Offices car park); and
- Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot turn to southbound Edinburgh Place.
From 4.30pm:
- Traffic along westbound Lambeth Walk must go straight ahead to westbound Chater Road if necessary;
- Traffic from Jackson Road cannot turn right to eastbound Chater Road;
- Traffic along westbound Connaught Road Central cannot turn left to Club Street and the unnamed slip road next to AIA Central;
- Traffic along eastbound Des Voeux Road Central must turn left to northbound Pedder Street;
- Traffic along westbound Queen¡¯s Road Central cannot turn right to northbound Ice House Street;
- Traffic along northbound Ice House Street between Wyndham Street and Queen¡¯s Road Central must turn left to westbound Queen¡¯s Road Central;
- Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road cannot turn left to Murray Road if necessary;
- Traffic along southbound Cotton Tree Drive must make an U-turn to northbound Cotton Tree Drive; and
- Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road will be diverted to southbound Rodney Street;
C. Suspension of bus stops, taxi stand, public light bus (PLB) stand and green minibus (GMB) stand
- The PLB stand at Sugar Street will be suspended from 1.30pm;
- The GMB stand at Tang Lung Street will be suspended from 1.30pm;
- All bus stops along southbound Gloucester Road, Irving Street, westbound Yee Wo Street, westbound Hennessy Road, eastbound Queensway, and westbound Harcourt Road between Rodney Street and Cotton Tree Drive will be suspended by phases from 2.15pm;
- Bus stops at the Queensway Public Transport Interchange will be suspended from 2.15pm; and
- The taxi stand at the Queensway Public Transport Interchange will be suspended from 2.15pm.
D. Suspension of car parks
All car parks along Great George Street, westbound Hennessy Road and Rodney Street may be closed at short notice if necessary. In addition, vehicles may not be permitted to leave or enter the car parks along the procession routes during the road closure period.
Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the area. Motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience and take heed of instructions of the Police on site.
