A man was fined $20,000 at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (March 22) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The courts heard that in June last year, officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a club on Tai Tong Road, Yuen Long. OLA officers posed as customers and patronised the club for food and drinks after registering as members upon the request of the club staff.
According to the OLA's record, the club did not possess a valid certificate of exemption or a club license on the day of inspection. Therefore, the male manager was charged with contravening section 4(1) of the Ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said enforcement actions would continue to be taken against unlicensed or illegal club operations.
