CS visits Southern District (with photos)
*****************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited Southern District this afternoon (March 5) to meet district councillors and fisheries representatives and to tour Aberdeen Technical School.

Mrs Lam started her visit by meeting with members of Southern District Council to exchange views on district issues and listen to their opinions on the district's needs and concerns. These included strengthening the functions of the District Councils, promoting tourism development in the district and the South Island Line of the Mass Transit Railway.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Southern District Council, Dr Chu Ching-hong, and District Officer (Southern), Ms Christine Wai, Mrs Lam proceeded to Aberdeen Harbour where she took a boat ride to inspect the facilities at Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter. She also boarded a stationary vessel for a meeting with representatives of the fisheries industry to better understand fishermen's livelihoods and their views on developing recreational fisheries.

Last on her programme was a visit to Aberdeen Technical School. In addition to touring school facilities and student dormitories, Mrs Lam was given a briefing by the School Supervisor, Father Lam Chung-wai, and Head of School Mr Peter Yu. This enabled Mrs Lam to gain a deeper understanding of how the school supports grass-roots students through its boarding school life. Mrs Lam chatted with some of the students and was introduced to their design and applied technology projects.
