The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the new headquarters of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) at the Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau this afternoon (February 25).
Mrs Lam received a briefing from the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Norman Lo, on the daily operations of the CAD, and toured the facilities in the new headquarters, including the new Air Traffic Control Centre and the Control Tower Simulator that is used for controller training purposes. She also paid a visit to other training and education facilities, such as the auditorium and the Education Path, to understand the CAD's work in promoting education in aviation.
During the visit, Mrs Lam chatted with the front-line staff of the CAD and highly praised the department for building the safe, efficient and sustainable air transportation system in Hong Kong and reinforcing Hong Kong's position as a leading regional aviation hub.
The design of the CAD's new headquarters incorporates sustainable, environmentally friendly and educational themes. The building not only houses all functional divisions of the department for better utilisation of resources and enhanced efficiency, but also provides a new Air Traffic Control Centre with state-of-the-art equipment and more controller workstations to cater for Hong Kong future medium- to long-term air traffic demand.
