The Government announced today (February 22) the appointment of three new members and the re-appointment of one incumbent member to the Committee on Financial Assistance for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to save Others for a term of two years.
The new members appointed are Mr Weber Lo Wai-pak, Ms Annissa Lui Wai-ling and Mr Suen Kai-cheong.
Mr Weber Lo Wai-pak is the Country Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Hong Kong and Macau, and serves on the Banking Advisory Committee, Board of Trustees of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust, and the Joint Committee on Student Finance.
Ms Annissa Lui Wai-ling is the Executive Director of Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service and serves on the Committee on Services for Youth at Risk.
Mr Suen Kai-cheong is the Chairman of the Wan Chai District Council. He has rich experience in community and public service.
Incumbent member Ms Ng Wai-yee has been re-appointed. She is the Vice Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions.
Welcoming the appointments, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said that he looked forward to working closely with members of the Committee in the new term.
He also thanked the outgoing members, Mr Lee Jark-pui, Mr George Ng Sze-fuk, and Ms Gabriella Wong Siu-ling for their sterling advice during their term of appointment.
The Committee considers and approves applications under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to Save Others. The Scheme represents the Government's recognition of the brave acts and sacrifice undertaken by these individuals and seeks to alleviate the financial hardship that their family members may face as a consequence of their death.
