The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, went to Lok Ma Chau Control Point to visit immigration and customs staff on duty there after attending the Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival 2013 this morning (February 10).
Accompanied by the Director of Immigration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, Mrs Lam visited the front-line duty officers of the Immigration Department to learn more about their work. Given the huge number of members of the public and passengers travelling via land boundary control points during the Lunar New Year, she commended the immigration staff for serving with determination and dedication, as well as providing courteous and efficient immigration services to the travelling public. The increasing inbound and outbound passenger traffic in recent years has placed pressure on the Immigration Department. Mrs Lam greatly appreciates the department's untiring efforts to enhance efficiency in service delivery to meet service demand.
Mrs Lam also highly praised enforcement staff of the Customs and Excise Department for monitoring the parallel trading of infant milk formula, enhancing intelligence exchange with their Shenzhen counterparts and notifying Shenzhen customs officers of on-site parallel trading activities. The Government proposes to amend the Import and Export (General) Regulations (Cap. 60 A) to impose export control on infant milk formula. When the amended regulations come into operation, Customs will also adjust the manpower deployment and take corresponding enforcement actions.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Mrs Lam extended her greetings to the front-line staff and the public while inspecting the immigration control point.
