The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
The Judiciary today (January 31) announced the appointment of Mr Peter Ng Kar-fai, SC, as Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from February 1, 2013.
The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.
The biographical note of Mr Ng, SC is as follows:
Mr Peter Ng Kar-fai, SC, was born in Hong Kong in 1962. He obtained an LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1985 and 1986 respectively. He further obtained an LL.M. from King's College, University of London in 1987. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1986 and was admitted as a Barrister in Singapore in 1995. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2004. He has been in private practice since 1988. He was appointed as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for a period in 2012.
