Mainland IT infrastructure provider expands network coverage from Hong Kong (with photo)
************************************************************

Mainland high-availability information technology (IT) service provider GDS Services opened its first operation centre in Hong Kong today (January 24). The centre will oversee the setting up of GDS' data centre in Hong Kong, which is a planned expansion of its network coverage in the Asia-Pacific region.

GDS' Hong Kong operation centre will work on the implementation of the data centre, which is intended to supplement the company's Shenzhen Futian data centre and boost GDS' total capacity so that it can fully serve the Greater China and Asia-Pacific regions.

The founder and the Chief Executive Officer of GDS Services, Mr William Huang, said, "The opening of the Hong Kong office represents our milestone strategic layout because the city has the world's best free market economy and a unique geographic location. The expansion marks an acceleration in GDS' internationalisation strategy."

He added, "With the establishment of our Hong Kong operation centre, we will be uniquely positioned to provide our customers, fast-growing local and Mainland Chinese financial institutions, with high-quality service whether they operate in the Mainland or Hong Kong."

GDS appreciates Hong Kong as a gateway to the Mainland and as the region's financial, international trade and logistics hub. Submarine optical cable communications from across the globe meet in Hong Kong, and GDS sees opportunities in this for the city to become a cloud computing hub in Asia.

The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Charles Ng, welcomed GDS' new operation centre in Hong Kong and said, "Hong Kong has sophisticated high-tech infrastructure, tech-savvy professionals, reliable power supply and robust enforcement of data privacy and security. All this makes our city an excellent location for high-end regional data centres in Asia Pacific. We wish GDS success and look forward to the future expansion of the company."
