Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Heng Shung Construction Company Limited, Yuk Kee Engineering Company Limited and one of the directors of Yuk Kee Engineering Company Limited were fined $15,000, $45,000 and $10,000 respectively at Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (January 14) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred in Ma On Shan on December 7, 2011, in which a worker fell a distance of about 1.4 metres to his death from the edge of a podium under construction.
