Labour Advisory Board members appointed

      The Government today (December 28) announced the appointment of 12 members to the Labour Advisory Board (LAB) for a term of two years starting from next January.

      The appointed members include five employee representatives elected by registered employee unions, namely:

* Leung Chau-ting
* Chung Kwok-sing
* Lee Tak-ming
* Ng Chau-pei
* Chau Siu-chung

and five employer representatives nominated by major employer associations, namely:

* Ho Sai-chu (representing the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce)
* Dr Kim Mak Kin-wah (representing the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong)
* Stanley Lau Chin-ho (representing the Federation of Hong Kong Industries)
* Irons Sze (representing the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong)
* Emil Yu Chen-on (representing the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce)

     Meanwhile, Chan So-hing and Thomas Ho On-sing have been appointed on an ad personam basis as employee member and employer member of the LAB respectively.

     The Commissioner for Labour, also chairman of the LAB, Cheuk Wing Hing, welcomed the above appointments and said he looked forward to working closely with the LAB members in the new term.

     Chau Siu-chung, Emil Yu Chen-on, Chan So-hing and Thomas Ho On-sing are newly appointed to the LAB. The others are serving LAB members.

     Chau Siu-chung is the Treasurer of the Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions.

     Emil Yu Chen-on is the General Manager of Keystone Electric Wire and Cable Company Limited.

     Chan So-hing is the Secretary of REACH, PCCW, Cable and Wireless Staff Association.

     Thomas Ho On-sing is the Chief Executive of Gammon Construction Limited.

     Cheuk Wing Hing paid warm tribute to the four outgoing members, including employee representatives Ng Wai-yee and Cheng Kai-ming as well as employer representatives Stanley Hui Hon-chung and Cheung Sing-hung for their contributions to the LAB. "During their terms of office, the four outgoing members offered constructive and valuable advice on a wide range of important labour issues. This helped the Government in formulating labour policies and legislation as well as introducing measures to foster harmonious labour relations and improve employees' rights and benefits," he said.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees, employers and the Government to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters.
