The spokesperson for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Tai Sin Hospital made the following announcement today (December 18):
Seven patients (one male and six female, aged between 76 and 97) in a convalescent ward of the Department of Rehabilitation & Extended Care have presented with diarrhoea symptoms recently. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients. Test results for two patients were positive for Clostridium Difficile toxin, while the results for other five patients are pending. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation. One female patient with chronic illness has succumbed due to pneumonia. The remaining six patients are in stable condition.
Admission to the ward concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has also been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
