The Transport Department (TD) announced today (December 18) that the Tuen Mun Road Bus-Bus Interchange (BBI) located on Tuen Mun Road (Kowloon-bound) near Siu Lam Interchange will be commissioned next Wednesday (December 26). Bus passengers can interchange at the BBI from short-haul routes to long-haul routes destined for Sha Tin and areas on Kowloon side.
For the convenience of passengers, electronic displays have been installed at the BBI to provide updates on real-time traffic conditions and special traffic news regarding Tuen Mun Road. In addition, the bus company has introduced for the first time a system to anticipate the arrival time of buses, making it easier for passengers to find out the time of bus arrival.
A total of four short-haul routes and five long-haul routes will start calling at the BBI upon its commissioning. The routes are:
* 59M (Tuen Mun Pier Head - Tsuen Wan Station)
* 61M (Yau Oi (South) - Lai King (North))
* 67M (Siu Hong Court - Kwai Fong Station)
* 68A (Long Ping Estate - Tsing Yi Station)
* 60X (Tuen Mun Central - Jordan (To Wah Road))
* 61X (Tuen Mun Station - Kowloon City Ferry)
* 263 (Tuen Mun Station - Sha Tin Station)
* 260X (Po Tin - Hung Hom Station)
* 259D (Lung Mun Oasis - Yau Tong)
Three additional short-haul routes will call at the BBI from January 26, 2013. These routes are 58M (Leung King Estate - Kwai Fong Station), 60M (Tuen Mun Central - Tsuen Wan Station) and 66M/66P (Tai Hing - Tsuen Wan Station).
Passengers interchanging from short-haul routes to long-haul routes at the BBI will only be charged the fare difference between the routes concerned, such that the total fare will be the same as the long-haul one.
In addition to the new electronic panels to display traffic conditions and basic facilities such as a shelter, windshields, seats, toilets, vending machines and route information displays, a Wi-Fi network will also be provided by a telecommunication company at the BBI to provide waiting passengers with time-limited (15 minutes) free Internet service.
The Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre of the TD will closely monitor the operation of the BBI upon its commissioning and keep close contact with the bus company concerned for co-ordination of bus services.
