The Hospital Authority today (November 30) published the Medication Safety Bulletin (MSB), which is one of the Authority's regular publications to promote risk management among health-care professionals in public hospitals.
In this issue, the educational bulletin alerted health-care professionals to drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions and the need to educate patients on early recognition of allergic reactions. Some practical tips learned from previous serious untoward events and effective measures adopted by two hospital clusters to reduce medication incidents due to known drug allergies were also shared.
The bulletin reported on the Annual Medication Safety Forum held earlier this month which highlighted the importance of medication reconciliation.
The publication has already been posted on the web for sharing with health-care professionals. Members of the public are also welcome to browse it at www.ha.org.hk/msb.
The MSB is published every six months, on the last Fridays of May and November. The next issue will be published on May 31, 2013.
