A total of 30 local bands will take part in the "I Pledge" Live Band Festival today (October 13) from noon to 8pm at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza C to promote intellectual property protection through a variety of band performances. The Director of Intellectual Property, Mr Peter Cheung, will deliver a speech at the event.
To promote the development of original music, the participating bands have uploaded their music videos onto the YouTube event channel to encourage the public to view and vote for their favourite original music videos. The top three bands with the highest number of votes will be presented awards in today's festival.
The "I Pledge" Live Band Festival is organised by the Intellectual Property Department (IPD), the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and YouTube, and co-organised by Wholala. The event aims to gather a group of music lovers to exchange skills and aspirations for encouraging the development of original music and hence forming a joint venture to promote intellectual property protection.
Supporting today's performance are Taichi, Eddie King & Friends, Dear Jane, Supper Moment, A Day, RedNoon, N'Gine and some 20 other local bands. The event will be streamed live through "Google+ Hangouts on Air" and YouTube, which welcomes the public to enjoy brilliant band performances anywhere. The IPD launched the "I Pledge" Campaign in 1999. It aims to combat Internet infringement, pirated goods and counterfeit goods, and promote intellectual property protection. The campaign has attracted over 10,000 citizens to join as members. They have pledged not to purchase or use pirated and counterfeit goods, and respect others' intellectual property rights.
