The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding a male rehabilitation ward of Kowloon Hospital in which some patients were infected with Clostridium Difficile toxin, the spokesperson of Kowloon Hospital (KH) has the following update today (September 9):
One more 84-year old patient of the concerned ward had presented with diarrhoea symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and his test results were positive for Clostridium Difficile toxin. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
