The Marine Department today (September 7) found the wreckage of the sixth container which contained plastic pellets and fell into the sea during Typhoon Vicente. A salvage operation at the site, off Hei Ling Chau Typhoon Shelter, was conducted immediately.
Before the salvage operation, the department used an oil boom to seal off the water around the salvage site to prevent the plastic pellets inside the container from dispersing. It was found that the container was severely damaged.
The department salvaged a large part of the container wreckage as well as more than 65 bags of plastic pellets weighing 1,625 kilograms in total. It will continue to search for the remaining small part of the container wreckage.
Related departments and the goods owner have been informed of the incident.
