SFH's response to QMH incident of oxygen delivery tube disconnection
*******************************************************

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, today (August 30) expressed deep concern about an incident at Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) involving the death of a patient.

The patient was admitted to QMH on August 22 because of parainfluenza. The condition of the patient deteriorated and an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine was used to provide oxygen to the patient. Medical staff later found that the oxygen delivery tube was disconnected from the ECMO machine. The patient passed away on August 28.

Dr Ko expressed his deep regret at the incident. The Hospital Authority has reported the case to Dr Ko and informed him that an investigation panel will be set up to conduct a thorough investigation into the case and suggest remedial measures in order to avoid the future occurrence of similar incidents.
