Duo recital by Andrew Ling and Michael Mak to feature all-French programme
******************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Andrew Ling (Violin) and Michael Mak (Piano) - A Duo Recital" will be staged in September.

Violinist Andrew Ling and pianist Michael Mak will perform classics from the mid to late Romantic period, an era in which composers attempted to increase emotional expression in music. The fascinating programme will include Ernest Chausson's "Poème, Op. 25", Darius Milhaud's "Cinema Fantasy for Violin and Piano, after Le bœuf sur le toit", Caser Franck's "Sonata for Violin and Piano in A", and Debussy's "Doctor gradus ad parnassum (from Children's Corner, L113)" and "Clair de lune".

Andrew Ling, a native of Hong Kong, graduated from Indiana University after studying under renowned violinists Henry Kowalski, Alan de Veritch and Cho-Liang Lin. Ling began his violin study at the age of 6 and performed regularly as a soloist with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra of Hong Kong from the age of 10. He won the violin and viola concerto competitions at Indiana University in 2003 and 2008 respectively. He has given recitals in Hong Kong, the US and Austria, and his performances with Indiana University orchestras were acclaimed by audiences and music critics. He is currently the Principal Violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Michael Mak began playing the piano at the age of 5 and studied piano with Lulu Chiu and Nancy Loo. He is a devoted performer and has won numerous awards both at local music festivals and abroad. He has been widely recognised for his obvious passion and talent as a gifted pianist. Mak is active in local music circles as a solo recitalist and chamber music player with the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, and he made his debut solo recital with an all-Chopin programme in 2001. He performed his second recital for a fundraising event of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Faculty's WE CARE Foundation in 2003. Mak is an orthopaedic surgeon, while his piano-playing remains a firm passion.
