The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (July 9) met with the Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, Mr Luis Miguel Castilla, who is leading a delegation of Peruvian officials and business leaders to visit Hong Kong.
At their meeting, Mr Tsang and Mr Castilla exchanged views on the world economic outlook as well as the opportunities for business co-operation between Hong Kong and Peru.
"It is increasingly important for Hong Kong to establish closer economic ties with emerging markets, such as Peru.
"Hong Kong is a prime global business centre with extensive connections with the Mainland China market. With a strong presence in Asia, our business services sector will be an invaluable partner for Peruvian companies in the Asian time zone when they seek to capitalise on the shift of international economic gravity from the West to the East," said Mr Tsang.
Mr Tsang also introduced Mr Castilla to Hong Kong's Renminbi business, infrastructure development and economic situation.
Mr Castilla also called on the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
