Tianjin Song Art Troupe to showcase classic narrative singing of northern China
******************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Chinese Opera Festival 2012 has invited the Tianjin Song Art Troupe to perform in Hong Kong in late July. Renowned vocalists of the troupe include Wang Li, Hao Xiujie, Li Shaojie, Wang Zhe, Zhang Kai, Feng Xinrui, Wang Hongliang, Wang Jianmei and Kong Xiaomeng.

In these upcoming concerts, the Tianjin Song Art Troupe will perform a variety of classics of the narrative song art. This will include examples of the stylistic schools of jingyun dagu (a narrative singing style in the Beijing dialect with drum accompaniment), the sonorous short-story narration of the Liu Baoquan school, the heartbreaking frailty of the Bai Yunpeng school, and the throaty kadiao style of the Luo Yusheng school. True to the saying that ĦħTianjin is the home of song artĦħ, the troupe will also perform various other song art genres, such as henan zhuizi (ballad singing to the accompaniment of the zhuiqin), meihua dagu (narrative singing with five instruments as accompaniment), xihe dagu, leting dagu, danxian, kuaibanshu (storytelling to the sound of bamboo clappers) and shandong qinshu (narrative singing of Shandong). These performances provide a rare opportunity for the public to enjoy a comprehensive presentation of the narrative singing styles of northern China.
