The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (April 26) arrived in Bangkok for the last leg of his three-nation tour of Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand, during which he hopes to increase business opportunities and facilitate greater trade and investment flows for Hong Kong.
On arrival in Bangkok, Mr Tsang attended a luncheon hosted by the Thai Bankers' Association and updated the Thai business community on Hong Kong's rapidly growing offshore Renminbi business, including the three pillars of Renminbi banking, bonds and trade settlement. He urged Thai businessmen to use Hong Kong as a platform to develop their Renminbi portfolios.
Mr Tsang then met with the Governor of the Bank of Thailand, Dr Prasarn Trairatvorakul. Both sides enjoyed a fruitful exchange covering the global economic and financial environment and economic prospects in the Asia region.
In the evening, Mr Tsang officiated at the gala premiere of the Hong Kong Film Festival 2012 in Thailand. "A Simple Life", which has won awards at regional and international film festivals, was selected as the opening movie for the festival.
