"ArtAlive@Park 2012" offers public more fringe activities
*********************************************************

Starting this Saturday (April 21), the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden will be filled with happenings that will bring visitors fun and entertaining weekends.

To tie in with "Beyond the CurtainĄ¤Envision the City", the first exhibition of "ArtAlive@Park 2012", the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has collaborated with various local art organisations to launch a series of programmes and activities at the podium garden, bringing art to the heart of the community and giving the public a closer look at artistic works.

Fabulous activities to be held from April 21 to May 26 will include the motion graphic presentation "Night of a Thousand Stars", the drama performance "A Dialogue with Art", "Combustive Percussion", the cappella performance "Musika Sans Fronteras", "Joyful Dance Fusion" and "Dreams Light Up the Sky". All activities will offer visitors an opportunity for relaxation, entertainment and pleasure.

For the drama performance "A Dialogue with Art", leading actors from Horizonte have come up with different acting parts and designed an interesting and lively guided tour for visitors. During the tour, the actors will interact with audiences to help them experience the artworks through the different senses of the human body, opening up a direct dialogue with them. The drama performance will take place at 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm on April 21 and May 19.

A group of artists with disabilities who have great artistic potential will gather at the podium garden on April 29. Under art director Ong Yong-lock's guidance, they will show their talent in music and dance. The show will bring visitors to appreciate the diversity and the togetherness of art. "Joyful Dance Fusion" will take place from 4pm to 5pm on April 29.

In the light painting workshop "Dreams Light Up the Sky", organised by Studio de Dimension de Tofu, the audience can draw freely on Victoria Harbour's night sky with a small LED torch and a digital camera instead of using paper and paint. Using the tracks of light, the audience can create wonderful pictures with their own imaginative powers. "Dreams Light Up the Sky" will take place every Saturday from April 21 to May 26 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

All the above-mentioned activities are free. Those who would like to join the programmes "Dreams Light Up the Sky" and "A Dialogue with Art" should contact Hulu Culture at 9746 4396 or 2780 2283 or by email at info@huluhk.org for registration.

There will also be other activities held under the umbrella of "Beyond the CurtainĄ¤Envision the City", such as "Night of a Thousand Stars", which will project motion graphics onto artworks to add colours in the night view of Tsim Sha Tsui East, and "Combustive Percussion", in which Dr Lung Heung-wing will lead visitors to create a beat of their own by playing all kinds of percussion instruments. Free public and school tours will be held during the exhibition period.

"Beyond the CurtainĄ¤Envision the City" is now running until May 31 at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden and features artworks created by students of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The participating students have applied engineering logic and aesthetics to explore and incorporate the conditions specific to the location into their works, which greatly enhance the attraction of the waterfront park amid the layers of illumination on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

Presented by the LCSD, "ArtAlive@Park 2012" is organised by the Art Promotion Office with Hulu Culture invited as curatorial collaborator. The Faculty of Architecture of HKU, the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Division of Building Science and Technology of the City University of Hong Kong have provided artistic collaboration. Programme collaborators include Don't Believe in Style, Studio de Dimension de Tofu, Lung and Lam Company Limited, Horizonte, Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong and Hiromi Company.
