Fatal traffic accident in Ngau Tau Kok

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Ngau Tau Kok this morning (April 16) in which a 24-year-old man died and two people injured.

     At about 3am, a taxi driven by a 63-year-old man was travelling eastbound along the first lane of Kwun Tong Bypass. When approaching near Sheung Yuet Road, it reportedly swerved right to the second lane to avoid collision with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) which broke down and stopped on the first lane. The taxi reportedly hit the rear part of the HGV and then rammed onto the kerb.

     Sustaining injuries, the taxi driver, a 24-year-old male passenger and a 18-year-old female taxi passenger were rushed to the United Christian Hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old male passenger was certifired dead at 3.45am.

     The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He was released on bail and was required to report back to Police in mid-April.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East are underway.
