Burial at sea a loving farewell
*******************************

Scattering cremated ashes at sea is a sombre and dignified send-off for a loved one. To promote this practice, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department began providing free ferry services for scattering cremains at sea in 2010. More than 1,200 families have used it.

The department has continually enhanced the service, hiring a larger vessel to accommodate growing demand and refining every stage of the final farewell.

In a video and feature story on news.gov.hk today (April 4), some families describe the special reasons they chose to use the service, while the onboard funeral director shares his experience at sea.
