Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) and the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC) will launch a project, "Hong Kong Film New Action - Power of Media Convergence", to help the film industry enhance collaboration with the multimedia sector and explore business opportunities overseas through business matching activities.

One of the highlights of the project is a series of forums themed on cross-media collaboration to be held concurrently with the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) next month. Key industry players from all over the world will gather at the forums to engage in exchanges with local industry representatives, while the speakers will share their views on how the film sector could collaborate with multimedia industries such as animation, comics and network games as well as the latest developments and business models in the overseas market. Prior to the forums, a workshop will be arranged for local filmmakers to hear more from experts about tapping multimedia business opportunities through brand licensing.

Speaking at a press briefing today (February 29), Member of the FDC Mr Raymond Wong said, "The project is our major promotion programme for this year. Through different activities, we hope to provide exchange platforms for key players of Hong Kong's film, Internet and multimedia industries to share experience in cross-media collaboration and unlock the vast business opportunities of the film production chain."

Apart from the forums, the project will feature business matching functions such as business matching meetings and a networking luncheon for filmmakers from different places to finalise deals. The business matching meetings will bring film and multimedia investors from abroad to discuss film projects under development. The networking luncheon will enable 100 film and multimedia industry investors from Hong Kong, the Mainland, Taiwan and overseas to strengthen their business network and connections in a bid to further cross-media collaboration.

CreateHK and the FDC will also set up a Hong Kong Film New Action Pavilion at FILMART to give an introduction to the project and the development of cross-media collaboration in films. The pavilion will also promote Hong Kong's new generation producers and directors, and introduce services provided by the FDC.

The FDC has been organising the Hong Kong Film New Action project since 2008. Promotional activities have been held on different themes, including revitalising the Southeast Asia market for Hong Kong films, promoting Hong Kong's 3D film production technology and exploring ancillary revenues for the film industry. The project has also served as a platform for local new generation producers and directors to interact with filmmakers, investors and distributors from abroad.
