Man jailed for conspiracy to defraud

     A 51-year-old man was sentenced to four years imprisonment at the District Court today (February 14) after being convicted of one count of conspiracy to defraud.

     The court heard that between 1992 and 1993, the defendant conspired with another man to set up a shell company, and deceived two textile companies for goods worth 7.4 million dollars by uttering dishonest cheques.

    The defendant fled away from Hong Kong in 1993 and was arrested by officers of Commercial Crime Bureau upon his return to Hong Kong in October 2010. He was subsequently charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud and was sentenced today.

     Officers of Commercial Crime Bureau arrested the other man in relation with the case in 1993. He was convicted for ten counts of obtaining properties by deception in November, 1994, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
