The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, will depart for Chongqing tomorrow evening (January 13).
While in Chongqing, Mr Lam will meet with leaders of the Chongqing Municipal Government, visit parts of the city and learn more about its development, and officiate at a joint opening ceremony for Chongqing-Hong Kong Week 2012 and the Chongqing Liaison Office on January 15. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So; the Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Joshua Law; and representatives of relevant bureaux and departments will also join the visit to Chongqing.
Mr Lam will proceed to Chengdu in the afternoon. While in Chengdu, he will meet with officials of the Sichuan Provincial Government, officiate at a ceremony to commemorate the opening of a hospital reconstructed with funds from Hong Kong, and inspect a number of reconstruction projects. The Team Leader, Sichuan Reconstruction, Development Bureau, Mr Mak Chai-kwong; the Director of Social Welfare, Mr Patrick Nip; Deputy Secretary for Food and Health, Miss Janice Tse; Deputy Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Daniel Cheng; and representatives of relevant bureaux and departments will also attend the meeting with Sichuan officials.
Mr Lam will return to Hong Kong on the evening of January 16. During his absence, the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, will be acting Chief Secretary for Administration.
