Immigration prosecutors confident in court
******************************************

Controlling the movement of people into and out of Hong Kong and issuing passports and identity cards are the roles for which Immigration Officers are best known. A select few of them also immerse themselves in immigration laws, to detect and prosecute immigration law offenders. They evaluate the evidence against offenders, lay charges and bring cases to court.

Immigration prosecutors are authorised to prosecute immigration offences at Magistrates' Courts, and specialise in dealing with cases of overstayers, illegal workers, bogus marriage and people holding fake documents. Although these officers are not lawyers, inside the courtroom they are confident when giving evidence, cross-examining witnesses and arguing with the defence.

A video and feature story sharing two such prosecutors' work experiences appeared on news.gov.hk today (November 13).
