Opus One Piano Trio to deliver delightful music
***********************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present "Concert by Opus One Piano Trio" in December as part of the "Our Music Talents" series.

Founded in 2001 by pianist Warren Lee, violinist Dennis Kim and cellist Richard Bamping, the Opus One Piano Trio made its debut at Hong Kong City Hall in the same year, and by popular demand they have since made a number of recital appearances in Hong Kong, performing works by composers ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Brahms and Shostakovich. In 2003, the Trio commissioned Eli Marshall, the Artistic Director of the New Music Ensemble in Beijing, to write a work for them, leading to the premiere performance of his work "Opus Primus" in Hong Kong.

Over the years, the Trio has made several recordings for RTHK Radio 4 and collaborated with other eminent musicians. The Trio even took part in a crossover project when it recorded an unplugged pop ballad with Hacken Lee for his "Victory" album (2002). Following the joining of violinist Wong Sze-hang in 2011, the Trio performed Beethoven's "Triple Concerto" with maestro Lu Jia and the Macao Orchestra in 2011. Writing on the show, critic Georg Predota remarked that "much praise has to go to the soloists", whose performance, despite technical challenges, was "projected with rarely heard clarity".

The enriching programme includes Piazzolla's "Oblivion", Shostakovich's "Piano Trio No. 2 in E Minor (Op. 67)" and Tchaikovsky's "Piano Trio in A Minor (Op. 50)".

"Concert by Opus One Piano Trio" will be staged at 8pm on December 5 (Monday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.
