************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong (CMC):

The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) of the Ministry of Health, People's Republic of China, has appointed the Chairman of the CMC, Mr Paul Fan, as its Chinese medicine International Collaboration Senior Adviser for a term of three years, commencing this month.

Mr Fan works in Hong Kong's finance and securities sector. Apart from having served in various public offices in his own sector, Mr Fan has also made distinguished contributions to the development of youth affairs and Chinese medicine in Hong Kong over the years. In connection with the latter, Mr Fan has been Chairman of the CMC since September 2005. His term of office will come to an end later this month.

Mr Fan says that he is enormously honoured by the appointment and cannot thank the SATCM enough for its more than generous support and assistance for the development, including regulation, of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. He is hoping that his experience gained during his time with the CMC and his national and international business and social networks can enable him to tender advice that will be of use to the SATCM.
