Wu Shengzhong to perform all-Liszt programme

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Piano Recital by Wu Shengzhong", featuring music by Franz Liszt and other works from the age of Romanticism, will be staged in July.

     The enriching programme will show Liszt in all his originality and variety, and will include Liszt's "Ballade No. 2", "3 Sonnets del Petrarca" and "Aprˆos une Lecture du Dante, Fantasia Quasi Sonata"; his transcriptions of Schubert's lieder "Auf dem Wasser zu Singen" and "Die Forelle"; his transcriptions of Wagner's opera music "Isoldes Liebestod" and "Concert Paraphrase on Overture to Tannhäuser"; and much more.

     Wu Shengzhong was born in Hong Kong to a family of music lovers. While he was still a student, Wu won numerous prizes in international competitions in Russia and Europe, including second prize in the Third International Festival of Slavic Music in Moscow. He has given concerts in Russia, Poland, Korea and Hong Kong. His repertoire includes works by European and Russian composers from various eras. Wu is especially devoted to interpretation of music by Scriabin and Szymanowski. Since 2006, Wu has been a jury member in the Hong Kong Asia Piano Open Competition and the Macao Asia Piano Open Competition. Wu is currently a lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Institute of Education and the Macao Polytechnic Institute.

     "Piano Recital by Wu Shengzhong" is one of the programmes of the Our Music Talents Series and the Liszt and Mahler Year Series. It will be staged at 8pm on July 18 (Monday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $150 and $100 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
