Employer fined for violation of safety rule (2)
***********************************************

Hop Lick Decoration & Furniture Company was fined $20,000 at Shatin Magistrates' Court today (May 23) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on September 13 last year in a workplace at Tai Wai, in which a worker fell from height and subsequently died when he was getting down from a tubular scaffold by means of a wooden ladder.

According to Section 6(2)(a) of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance, every employer must provide or maintain systems of work that are, as far as reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health. Any employer who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $200,000.
