The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, together with animals from Doctor Pet, visited patients at The Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital in Sandy Bay, Pok Fu Lam, today (April 20) to convey Easter greetings.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Hospital Authority, Mr Anthony Wu, the Chief Executive chatted with a young man suffering from mucolipidosis and another who had acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. On respirators round the clock, the two young men have received hospital care for about 10 years and are continuing with their education. The Chief Executive expressed support for their endeavours.
Mr Tsang then met a group of about 20 child patients and their parents in the garden. They were treated to performances by the animal stars from Doctor Pet, including cats, dogs and rabbits. Each child received a present from the Chief Executive.
"I hope today's visit brings warmth and joy to the patients, particularly kids who have long-term hospital needs," the Chief Executive said.
Founded in 2004, Doctor Pet is a charitable organisation that promotes therapy with the assistance of pet animals. The pets and their masters often pay hospital and home visits to patients and others in need.
