Temporary traffic and transport arrangements in Central District

     The Transport Department (TD) today (April 20) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Central District in three stages from April 22 onwards in connection with the construction of the Central ¡ª Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link ¡ª Central Interchange.

     The arrangements will mainly include:

Stage 1 - From 9pm on April 22 to 8am on April 23

I. Road closure

     Man Po Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic.

II. Temporary traffic arrangement

     Motorists from Western District heading for Central Piers or Finance Street are advised to travel on ground level via Connaught Road West eastbound, Connaught Road Central eastbound and Man Kwong Street eastbound.

     Those travelling on Rumsey Street flyover eastbound heading for Central Piers or Finance Street are advised to continue on Connaught Road Central eastbound, Tim Wa Avenue northbound, Lung Wo Road westbound and Man Yiu Street northbound.

III. Temporary public transport arrangement

     During the above road closure period, Citybus (CTB) Route No. 5X on its journey to Causeway Bay and New World First Bus (NWFB) Route No. 30X on its journey to Central will be diverted via Connaught Road West eastbound, Connaught Road Central eastbound and Man Kwong Street eastbound before resuming their original route.

Stage 2 and 3 - From 8am on April 23 onwards

I. Road closure and opening of slip roads

(a) The section of Man Po Street from a point opposite Central Pier 3 to Man Yiu Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic;
(b) A section of Finance Street between Two International Finance Centre and Four Seasons Hotel will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic;
(c) A slip road (opposite Central Pier 4) and a traffic signal control junction connecting Man Po Street with Man Kwong Street westbound and Man Kwong Street eastbound will be open to vehicular traffic;
(d) A slip road leading from Man Po Street to Finance Street near Four Seasons Hotel will be open to vehicular traffic.

II. Temporary traffic arrangement

     During the above road closure period, the following temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented:

(a) Alteration of traffic direction
The section of Finance Street near Four Seasons Hotel will be re-routed to one-way eastbound traffic.

(b) Traffic diversion
(1) Motorists travelling on Man Po Street may continue their journey through Man Kwong Street eastbound and the roundabout at Man Yiu Street to all destinations.
(2) Motorists driving vehicles not exceeding a length of 8 metres on Man Po Street heading for Central Piers No. 1 to 6 are advised to turn left onto Man Kwong Street westbound at the new signalised junction.
(3) Motorists on Man Po Street heading for Four Seasons Hotel are advised to travel via the new slip road leading from Man Po Street to Finance Street westbound.
(4) Motorists driving vehicles not exceeding a length of 8 metres on Man Po Street heading for Two International Finance Centre are advised to travel via the new slip road leading from Man Po Street to Finance Street eastbound.
(5) Motorists from Man Yiu Street via Finance Street westbound heading for Man Chiu Street and Man Cheung Street are advised to travel via the Finance Street service road.

III. Temporary public transport arrangement

     The following temporary bus and green mini-bus (GMB) diversions will be implemented:

(1) CTB Route No. 5X on its journey to Causeway Bay and NWFB Route No. 30X on its journey to Central will be diverted via the slip road leading from Man Po Street to Man Kwong Street eastbound and the roundabout near Central Pier 7 before resuming their normal routes;
(2) Special departures of GMB Route No.8 (during 7.30am to 9.30am from Monday to Saturdays, except public holidays) on its journey to Central  will be diverted via Connaught Road West eastbound, Connaught Road Cental eastbound, Man Kut Street eastbound, Man Cheung Street eastbound and Man Yiu Street southbound before resuming its original route; and
(3) GMB route 22X on its journey to Central will be diverted via the slip road leading from Man Po Street to Man Kwong Street eastbound, the roundabout near Central Pier 7, Man Yiu Street southbound, Harbour View Street, Connaught Road Central, Connaught Place, Man Yiu Street northbound, Man Kwong Street westbound and U-turn slip road near Man Fai Street before resuming its original route.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as necessary. Motorists are advised to follow the posted directional signs for access to their destinations. Motorists and the public should also be alert to traffic news broadcast via radio and television for the most up-to-date traffic arrangements.
