Police today (March 24) arrested 13 men and three women in an operation codenamed "Pinpoint" to combat child pornography.
Acting on intelligence and extensive analysis, officers of the Technology Crime Division of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) raided various locations across the territory today together with officers from the Regional Crime Units of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East, New Territories South and New Territories North.
During the operation, 13 men and three women aged between 15 and 52 were arrested for possession of child pornography. Over 4 000 pieces of child pornography photos and 650 movies and video clips were found in 18 personal computers seized.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrested persons had downloaded child pornography from overseas websites and saved copies on their personal computers.
The arrested persons were bailed out and will report to the Police in mid-April.
"Possessing child pornography is an offence which carries a maximum penalty of eight years' imprisonment and a fine of $2 million on conviction," a police spokesperson stressed. Police will continue to maintain close liaison and cooperation with overseas law enforcement agencies to deter child pornography activities.
