Update on cluster of human swine influenza cases in Castle Peak Hospital long stay ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a long stay ward in which some patients had been confirmed to have human swine influenza, the spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) announced the following update today (February 11):

     One more male patient, aged 56, in the ward has presented with flu symptoms.  Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for human swine influenza.  The patient is under isolation and in stable condition.
 
     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting of the ward has been imposed.  Infection control measures have been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
