Death of man on remand at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre

     A 52-year-old male inmate on remand at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre complained of shortness of breath at about 6.25am today (January 19). He was sent to the institution hospital for medical treatment and subsequently to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was certified dead at 1.30pm.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said the case has been reported to the police. An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The inmate was admitted to Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre on November 8, 2010 on a charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug.
