Members of the public are invited to visit the Primary School Pupils' Visual Arts Contest cum Exhibition "My Identification with Hong Kong", from tomorrow (January 5) to January 9 at the Pao Galleries, 5/F, Hong Kong Arts Centre.
The activity is presented by the Arts Education Section of the Education Bureau (EDB), with cash prizes donated by Dr Helmut Sohmen. The activity aims to display pupils' understanding of and concern for Hong Kong through visual arts creation, and to provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and artistic ability.
About 150 pieces of artwork have been selected for the exhibition from the 400 entries submitted by 72 primary schools. The artworks comprise a wide range of themes using various media, including drawing, painting and photography. The artworks are presented alongside the artists' statements, providing viewers with more information to interpret their work.
The adjudicators of the contest included Chairman of the World-Wide Shipping Group, Dr Helmut Sohmen; former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Mr Laurence Tam; renowned artist Mr Aser But and Lecturer of the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr Koon Wai-bong, together with an EDB representative. Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes have been selected from the entries. The prize winners and their schools will be awarded cash and certificates as encouragement. In addition, a Youngest Entrant Prize has been awarded to the youngest entrant with outstanding performance .
Admission to the exhibition is free. Pupils, teachers and the public are all welcome. Details of the exhibition are as follows:
