Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2010 gets underway

     The "Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2010", the largest print art event ever held in Hong Kong, has just got been launched, bringing the public two spectacular exhibitions: "Convergence/Divergence йд An International Prints Exchange Exhibition" and "Watershed: A Tale of Hong Kong and Belfast".

     The "Convergence/Divergence йд An International Prints Exchange Exhibition" brings together more than 300 artworks by 195 printmakers from 24 printmaking studios over the world, including the Mainland, Bangladesh, Australia, Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Portugal, Luxembourg and Hong Kong. The works on display reflect the artists' various cultural backgrounds and thoughts on life. Diverse interpretations of the subject matter, diverse use of media, and diverse modes of expression converge in this exhibition, giving the public an opportunity to fully "see" and "read" the exquisite art of printmaking. The exhibition will run from December 22 to 30 at the Hong Kong City Hall Low Block, and will move to the Jockey Club Creative Art Centre from January 7 to 12, 2011 and then to Queensway Government Offices from January 18 to 30.

     Another exhibition "Watershed: A Tale of Hong Kong and Belfast", currently being staged at the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre, will run until February 25, 2011. It presents innovative "printstallations" йд installation artworks of prints created by artists from Hong Kong and Belfast (Ireland, UK). These works take print art to new horizons by combining graphic art with the environment, space and lighting.

     In addition to these exhibitions, the "Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2010" also brings the public a wide range of educational activities, including guided tours for schools, and an Artists' Talk, to be held from 3pm to 4.30pm tomorrow (December 22) at the Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong City Hall Low Block. Conducted in English, the talk is free and open to visitors on first-come,first-served basis. Meanwhile, the "Virtual Gallery" will enable viewers from all over the world to participate in the exhibitions and appreciate the artworks on display.

     The exhibition is jointly organised by the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Hong Kong Open Printshop, supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, with venue support from the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, actively supported by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and education promotion supported by the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art.
