The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) published today (December 20) the December 2010 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics (HKMDS).
In this issue, two feature articles entitled "Hong Kong Labour Force Projections for 2010 to 2029" and "The Mortality Trend in Hong Kong, 1981 to 2009" are included.
"Hong Kong Labour Force Projections for 2010 to 2029"
C&SD has compiled a new set of labour force projections covering the period 2010 to 2029. This new set of projections is compiled using the newly released results of the 2009-based population projections as the benchmark. The projections provide information on the projected labour supply in Hong Kong and its age and sex distributions during 2010 to 2029. This feature article gives a brief account of the projection method and presents the projection results.

"The Mortality Trend in Hong Kong, 1981 to 2009"
The number of deaths in Hong Kong showed an increasing trend because of population ageing. This feature article gives a brief account of the mortality trend in Hong Kong over the period from 1981 to 2009.

Published in bilingual form, HKMDS is a compact volume of official statistics containing 140 tables. It collects up-to-date statistical series on various aspects of the social and economic situation of Hong Kong. For selected key statistical items, over 20 charts depicting the annual trend in the past decade and quarterly or monthly trend in the recent two years are also available.
