The Correctional Services Department(CSD) takes every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there, a department spokesperson said today (December 15).
"The department is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody," the spokesperson said.
The comments followed the seizure by Tai Lam Correctional Institution staff of suspected dangerous drugs concealed in a piece of mail sent to an inmate yesterday (December 14).
After testing, it was suspected that the concealed substance was cannabis resin.
The spokesperson said: "The case has been reported to the Police for investigation. CSD is also following up the case and anyone found to have breached the Prison Rules will be disciplined."
There were 188 seizures of dangerous drugs last year and 131 this year up to December 14, with the seizures mainly taking place in the reception centres.
