SHA encourages HK athletes to strive for excellence at Asian Para Games (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, attended the flag raising ceremony for the Hong Kong, China, Delegation at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games (Games) in Panyu, Guangzhou today (December 11) to cheer for Hong Kong's athletes. The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, will attend the opening ceremony of the Games on behalf of the Hong Kong SAR Government tomorrow (December 12).

     The flag raising ceremony was held at noon at the Athletes' Village, Asian Games Town. "With their resilience and perseverance, the disabled athletes are able to fulfil their potential in sports and to live a positive and healthy life," Mr Tsang said.

     "Hong Kong's disabled athletes have achieved remarkable results in international sports events in the past, including at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics Games. I hope they will continue to strive for excellence and join fellow athletes in realising the Games' spirit - 'We Cheer We Share We Win'".

     The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games will be held between December 12 and 19. A total of 2,500 athletes from 41 countries or regions will participate in the competition. Hong Kong has fielded a large delegation, sending more than 100 athletes to compete in 14 sporting events.
