Woman killed in Lantau North traffic accident

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Lantau North this afternoon (December 10) in which a 36-year-old female passenger died and another 14 people injured.

     About 2.15pm, a coach driven by a 30-year-old man and another coach driven by a 51-year-old man were travelling in sequence along Ying Hei Road towards Man Tung Street. When making a right turning at the junction of Man Tung Street, the coach in front was reportedly hit by another coach from behind and side-turned.

     Both coach drivers, nine female, three male and a 6-year-old girl passengers from the coaches were injured and rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital. Among them, a 36-year-old female passenger who sustained serious injuries was certified dead at 2.57 pm at Princess Margaret Hospital.

     The 51-year-old driver was arrested for ¡®dangerous driving causing death¡¯ and still being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team, Traffic New Territories South, are under way.
