Police appeal for information on Mong Kok arson suspect (with photos)

     Police today (December 10) appealed to the public for information on a suspect believed to be connected to a series of arson cases that occurred in Mong Kok in the early morning of December 6.

     At about 4.45am, Police received a report that some rubbish had been found set on fire at a rear lane connecting Nathan Road and Nullah Road.

     Fifteen minutes later, Police received another report that a number of hawker stalls at No. 222 Fa Yuen Street had also caught fire.

     About 200 residents were evacuated and four women and three men were injured in the fire.

     At about 5.10am, Police received a third report that some garbage had been found on fire at the rear lane of Hang On Building, No. 157 Sai Yeung Choi Street North.
     
     The fires were put out. It is believed that these three cases were of suspicious origin. The District Crime Squad of Mong Kok District is now investigating the cases.

A man in his 40s, stands about 1.57m, wearing a light-coloured coat and jeans, was seen fleeing from the scene after the fires broke out.

        After reviewing footage from a nearby CCTV, Police also found a male suspect, who is believed to be connected to the cases, leaving the scene after the fires.

        Police appeal to anyone who has information about the suspect and these cases to contact the investigating officers on 2398 6329.
