Police operation against traffic offenders

     Police officers issued a total of 565 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 50 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7 p.m. today (December 7) and a total of 197 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 396 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 169 for other traffic offences.  

     Forty-five pedestrians and 195 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,751 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year.

     Of them, 52.7 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
