Year 2011 civil education desktop calendar available free from Thursday (with photo)
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

The year 2011 desktop calendar promoting positive core and family values is available free for collection from December 9 (Thursday). It was co-published by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Commission on Youth and Family Council.

With the twin themes of a positive attitude towards life and happy families, the calendar carries messages embodying core values such as "responsibility", "respect", "care and concern" and "mutual support" in each of the months, coupled with quotations from Chinese classics including the Doctrine of the Mean, the Book of Rites and the Three-character Classic. It is hoped that the calendar can encourage Hong Kong people to embrace positive values, cherish their families and contribute to society by helping the underprivileged.

The calendar was designed by young local illustrator Stella So, who is acclaimed for depicting Hong Kong's city life with a nostalgic touch. The illustrations of snapshots of family life in Hong Kong are hoped to bring warmth and comfort to calendar users.

The calendar is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres, public libraries, city halls and town halls, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Museum of History and the Civic Education Resource Centre on 7/F, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan.

An electronic version of the calendar will also be available on the CPCE website (www.cpce.gov.hk/calendar2011) for downloading.

For enquiries, please call 2802 0131.
