Territory-wide operation to promote public light bus safety

     Police issued 78 fixed penalty tickets to public light bus (PLB) drivers in a territory-wide operation against traffic offences involving PLBs yesterday (November 23).

     The operation included high profile enforcement and deployment of plainclothes officers to observe the driving manner of PLB drivers. Seventy-eight fixed penalty tickets were issued to PLB drivers for various traffic offences, including failing to comply with traffic signals, failing to comply with traffic signs, and using a mobile telephone while the vehicle is in motion. Another 38 summonses were issued to PLB passengers for not wearing seat-belts.

     Three PLBs were suspected of having structural defects and would be referred to Transport Department for follow up action. Another PLB was suspected of not complying with the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations and was detained for examination.

     Police will continue to take various enforcement actions with a view to improving road safety.
