Six employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 24) obtained three orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $254,000 against three employers at the District Court.

     The three employers were Viewstar Limited, Tat Shing (Hong Kong) Clothing Limited and 3333 Limited trading as Top Choice Seafood And Hotpot Restaurant. They were ordered to pay the MPFA $120,548.18, $83,772.19 and $50,094.41 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four, 19 and 23 employees of the respective defendants.

     Meanwhile, the MPFA successfully pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $73,000 for nine employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Inner-Pipe Construction (Hong Kong) Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $2,802.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, namely Well Top Development Limited trading as ǧʽ²ÍÌüС³ø and Larch Navigation (International) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $36,877.38 and $33,862.5 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered each defendant to pay the costs of $930. The Tribunal ordered the defendants to pay $124, $215 and $176 respectively as the costs of the claim.
